Dr. S.V.A.R. Sastry


Dr. S.V.A.R. Sastry, Associate Professor, School of Chemical Technology & Associate Dean Research & Development and International Student Affairs, Harcourt Butler Technical University


Dr. S.V.A.R. Sastry did his B.Tech. from NIT Jalandhar, M.Tech. from IIT Delhi and Ph.D. from JNTU Kakinada, all in Chemical Engineering with a special focus on Renewable Energy. He also received “Best Ph.D. Thesis Award”.

 He has taught more than 20 subjects and 8 Lab courses. He has guided more than 200 Undergraduate students, 12 Graduate and 10 Postgraduate students in their projects in the area of Fluidization, Heat Transfer, Mass Transfer, Biofuels and Nanotechnology.

He is a Member Scientist of CORE GROUP of Scientists on Tree Borne Oil seeds for promotion, utilization and socio-economic linkages in Southern India. He is a Senior Member of the Institution of Engineers, the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, the International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology, the Institute for Engineering Research and Publication and the Indian Desalination Association.

 

Professional Journey:


More than 19 years of teaching and research experience in the area of Chemical Engineering in providing engineering education to under-graduate and graduate students. Presently, he is working as the Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering in the School of Chemical Technology, Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. He also holds the portfolio of Associate Dean (Research & Development) and Associate Dean (International Student Affairs) at Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India.

 

IIT Journey:


He did his M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering with specialization of “Process Engineering & Design” from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He was 2nd in his Batch.

To be successful in life, one needs to learn certain qualities like persistence, hard work, dedication, focus, handling failures and learn-ability. The study at IIT Delhi helped him to develop these qualities and also improve his interpersonal, social and communication skills.

The Professors were very much interested in teaching the students and preparing them for the real world experience. Having a good professor and teacher plays a huge role in the success of the students in that profession in the real world because students take inspiration from teachers.

From IIT Delhi; Prof. P.V. Krishnan, Prof. A.K. Gupta, Prof. S.N. Naik, Prof. K.K. Pant, Prof. S. Basu to name a few, were great sources of inspiration who prepared Dr. Sastry for his future career.

 

Career Achievements:


  • He was given the “University Best Teacher Award” by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada, A.P. for the years 2008-2013. He was given the “Best Researcher Award” in 2021. He was also given the Research Excellence Award 2023 by Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur.
  • He is a Reviewer for more than 10 International journals and Permanent reviewer for 5 Elsevier Journals (Energy Conversion & Management; Journal of Cleaner Production; AIChE). He has been awarded “Outstanding Reviewer” status by Elsevier, U.S. and granted full free access to Scopus by Elsevier, U.S.
  • He is an Editor for 6 International Journals and Editorial Board member for 4 International Journals.
  • He has given consultation in the design and implementation of ‘High Speed Industrial Vaporizer’, ‘Mixing Device for Chemical Absorption Process’ and ‘Exploring Disruptions, Formulations, and Technologies in Lubricant Industry’ to Convetit, U.S. He has also given consultation in the “Cyclone Separator Technology” to BCC Global, China.
  • He has successfully organized more than 20 Faculty Development Programs/ Workshops/ International Conferences; of which CHEMCON 2022 held during 27th – 30th December, 2022 stands tall.
  • He has worked/is working on Sponsored Projects worth Rs. 56 lakhs from various Government Agencies.

He has also conducted a Training program on “Basic Principles of Unit Operations in API Manufacturing” for Drug Substance Manufacturing for Eisai Pharma, Visakhapatnam.

He has got 12 Patents in the area of Renewable Energy and Nanofluids. He has authored 22 International Books in the area of Renewable Energy, Unit Operations & Heat Transfer. He has published more than 60 Research Papers in the area of Renewable energy & E-waste management in reputed International journals and presented papers in more than 50 International Conferences.

He is a recognized author for Association for Computing Machinery, U.S.; Transtech Publications, Switzerland; Nova Science Publishers, U.S and Cambridge University Press, U.K and Lambert Academic Publishers, Germany.
