Can you share with us a brief idea about My Safe Circle and the main intention of starting this initiative?

My Safe Circle is an organization that was started in December 2020 to bring out a better society. It was formed to help others fight their mental illness and also provide a safe environment for the survivors and their family to speak what their mind says is the core belief of our organization. We welcome people and survivors to share their stories and success in mental health and inspire others. We respect the privacy of an individual and maintain complete secrecy and confidentiality to people so that they can discuss and open up about their life stories. Our focus is to enhance mental health and make others see mental health with no stigma and the main idea is to provide a free environment where people can speak up without any judgments and can relate with others and also inspire them.

Our motto is to aid people in their battles with mental illness and create a secure atmosphere for survivors and their families to express themselves. We invite people, victims, and survivors to share their stories and success with other people. We also share stories of people who were victims of social issues by maintaining their privacy. Our organization welcomes everyone with our trust factor so that they can share and discuss their life stories healthily.

Our team consists of people who are non-judgemental and have the same views as our organization. The goal is to improve mental health and help others see mental illness as a non-stigmatizing issue. The fundamental concept is to create a free environment in which people may relate to others, inspire others, and speak freely without the fear of being judged.

Mental health conditions are increasing worldwide. How do you wish to bring a change in this world and what are the core ideas that you are planning to implement in the future?

We live in a society where having mental distress is taboo, and accepting and sharing the stories needs courage even in your close circle of people. We, as an organization, aim to provide that safe circle to the people where they can share how they feel and we assist them in the same. We strongly hope to make a difference and debunk myths related to mental health and we also aim to help people by providing therapy, counseling, and mental health sessions. We strive for the betterment of society.

Our vision is very simple; we wish to see a healthy society where mental health is not considered taboo. We hope to educate people and assist them in changing their thoughts about mental health. We believe that our ideas will help in creating such an environment where looking after mental health is our regime.

We are dedicated to improving the mental health of an individual by providing them with a safe and healthy space. We ensure that all our core values and beliefs are in sync. We conduct various programs related to contemporary social issues and that has inspired people to come forward and speak up without holding themselves back. We intend to conduct more sessions by including more such people on our platform who can join us to bring a change in society.

Can you take us through the pathway that led to the creation of My Safe Circle?

I have always been determined to devote myself to the upliftment of women and create a better world for women and men across India. I have faced a lot of issues in my early life, wherein I stood for myself and fought against issues, and made a pledge to help other too. Being a social activist, I believe that every individual should contribute to a better world for everyone to live. Today, I wish to work for the upliftment and betterment of weaker sections of the society, to provide equal rights and a rightful position for women in the country. My mother has always inspired me and she has given me the strength to prove my skills for the betterment of the people.

With tremendous enthusiasm, I founded “My Safe Circle”, an initiative with the primary objective to provide a safe and healthy environment for people to help them in dealing with their mental health issues and a safe space for the survivors to speak up. The main idea is to help people stay mentally well and fit. Here, people can bravely share their stories without any hesitation. I have conducted several free sessions for cancer patients and overcome the fear. I have also conducted Detoxification sessions to help people struggling with mental health issues mostly during the pandemic. I can proudly say that our organization has helped provide full secrecy and confidentiality to people discussing and opening up about life stories. Our focus is to enhance mental health and make others see mental health with no stigmas.

Can you elaborate more about the major training sessions organized by My Safe Circle?

Our organization has always strived to look upon the major social stigmas faced by people across the nation. We have tried to reach out to as many people as possible to help them overcome the issues they have faced and speak up to society without any fear. Some of the major issues that we have dealt with are:

Detoxification- Drug addiction can start with the experimental use of a recreational drug in social situations, and, for some people, the drug use becomes more frequent. Not just drugs, this applies to alcohol consumption too. Detoxification is one of the methods to stay away from it. We believe that for such people speaking is a therapy. Our sessions encourage the audience to interact and share their stories. This also encapsulates and focuses on the audience coming forward and articulating their experiences.

The Myth of Pink and Blue - The society identifies gender-based on color. In the session on “The Mentality of Pink and Blue”, we covered questions like why the mentality of the society resonates with “Why is pink for girls and Blue is for Boys?” and how we as a society can break free from these rituals and create an environment which is free from discrimination.

Menstruation as a hesitation - Even though this is changing day by day, some sections of society still treat it with utmost fear and hesitation. Normalization and practice of Menstrual Hygiene are spoken about in our sessions. Myths such as using tampons and menstrual cups, can lead to losing virginity, girls are impure during their menstrual time, periods are shameful are debunked and how important it is to educate males on menstrual education is covered.

Sex Education - Several education systems and institutions refuse to provide the right sex education to students at the right age. It is important that the students learn about it, which can reduce the number of misconceptions associated with it. Sex education does not encourage people to have sex; on the contrary, it gives them the knowledge and the freedom to choose and decide, know our body, and how it works! So, healthy decisions can be made. In our sessions, we strive to capture sexuality, health, self-expression, and gender norms.

Failure is your Saving Grace- When we hear the term “failure,” we are typically filled with dread of permanent defeat; we believe that one failure has defined our entire world! So, in this session, attendees will learn to view failure from a positive perspective. They will see failure as a new opportunity and will have a positive attitude towards it. Finally, failure will be viewed as a new beginning rather than a conclusion.

What are the major issues that My Safe Circle focuses on? How do you go about enhancing the mental health of an individual?

Several issues such as anxiety, depression, and panic attack are some of the major obstacles that affect the mental well-being of an individual. We aim to identify the issue faced by the person and try to bring out ways to help them overcome their problems. We adopt methods and medical therapy to help individuals to get over their disorders. Other issues handled include grief, obsessive-compulsive disorder, hallucination, anger issues, stress, and fear. Apart from this medical therapy is provided for cancer patients and people who have had mental health impacts of Covid-19.

Enhancement programs are provided for people across the nation. The various aspects enhanced by My Safe Circle are:

      Motivation

      Self-esteem

      Confidence

      Positivity

      Relationship

      Mindfulness

With My Safe Circle, people can talk about their journey anonymously or through videos and get featured on our social media platforms. By sharing your stories, you can also heal others.

How does My Safe Circle protrude methodically and formally?

My Safe Circle extends its atmosphere to everything. We keep at it with the responsibilities of detoxification, which others haven’t set down the efforts on. On top of that, with the routine, we dive into the personal concern more willingly than presuming the matter in question, which is unheeded in many other programmes. Our interns have complete prerogatives when it comes to studies of mental health concerns, and we make sure that the interns put forth their opus to our society in social graces.
