science interest
Throughout my childhood I got the opportunity to
travel around the world with my parents. From childhood I was very much
interested in museums and art galleries. I was very much fascinated by
libraries also. My maternal aunt was working as a librarian at Panjab University’s
Law department. As a child I use to visit her and would be amazed to see her
sitting in a quite serene environment surrounded by intellectual professors and
studious student and that inspired me a lot and I wished to become a
professional and work in same kind of an environment and I guess my wish came
true and I got an opportunity to pursue my passion.
Sakshi Bahl about reading
habit
In a world filled with constant
distractions and digital allure, cultivating a reading habit is a priceless
gift you can give to yourself. Reading not only expands your knowledge but also
opens doors to new worlds, perspectives, and opportunities. Reading broadens
your vision, enables to see different perspectives of a situation. There is no
match to a well read person. Reading gives you the confidence to share your
views and opinions with grace.
“Not all
readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.”
― Harry S. Truman
Sakshi Bahl publications
Research and publications are
part and parcel of our profession. It is a basic requirement of the profession.
I have published many national and international papers at various conferences
and seminars. I have authored two books Exploring Library &
other Learning resources and Pustkalyon evum anyaa dhigham sansdhano ki khoj
and I am currently working on the third one. It is almost ready for
publication.
Sakshi Bahl upcoming book
about virtual libraries
I am currently working on my third book and it’s on
the subject – Virtual libraries. Post Covid era there has been a paradigm shift
in the user’s information seeking behaviour. The users who were comfortable in
using print material only, now have become techno savvy and prefer digital
resources available just at the click of an icon. There has been a mammoth
growth in various types of e-resources, databases and learning portals. Not
everyone is aware about them. So, in order to provide a single platform to the
students about various e- resource that are both paid and open access I have
brought them together in a form of a book. The readers would be acquainted with
many types of e-resources and platforms that they can use in pursuit of
knowledge.
Sakshi Bahl librarian precious
moments
There are actually many incidents that swell my
chest with pride and bring tears of joy. First of all,the feeling of being able
to help someone in need and being the guiding light, itself is a great feeling.
Many times, randomly someone approaches me at the
airport, hotel, mall or a hospital and introduces me to their family members
and says she is our Librarian madam. She has helped me a lot and starts to
narrate an incident that I vaguely remember.
But if you ask of a particular one then few years
ago my daughter hurt herself very badly while playing in the park. There was a
deep cut on her chin and we rushed her to the nearest hospital. All of us were
in a panic situation as my daughter was bleeding a lot. Suddenly the cosmetic
surgeon came and stitches were done. The nurse came and did the dressing,
comforted us with nothing to worry, gave necessary instructions and called us
again after two days for dressing. Next time when we went for the dressing my
daughter took chocolates with her as a gesture to thank the doctor and the
sister who did her dressing. All of us thanked them and to my pleasant surprise
the nurse said thanks are due to you madam. It is because of you that we are
here. You supported us, provided us reading material and a congenial
environment for study in the library that has made us what we are today. I did
not recognise her but she remembered me. The feeling was priceless.
